Would the lakers be undefeated if they played more defense every game?

They always manage to play well against the top teams and have the best record despite coasting through many of their games. Since the lakers average so many points, they're pretty much guaranteed a win by holding their opponent below 100, but usually they play at just a fast pace that they don't really need to exert themselves too much on defense. so their main problem is motivation, as in the game against charlotte after beating the spurs and before they went 6-0 on this road trip.
