Why do girls wear northface jackets as sweatshirts?

I know these jackets are really expensive and they're meant for outdoor sports and most of the girls I see wearing them don't even go outside other than to get to their cars and a regular sweatshirt would be fine. I ski and I personally find the jackets to be okay but overpriced for a fleece. I own other things from northface I'm very happy with (ski pants) so I'm not against the company or anything I just don't get why girls wear a technical jacket as a style. Is it just cuz it's expensive? Are we gonna start seeing girls wearing hiking boots just cuz they're expensive because north face jackets aren't really nice looking or anything. Sometimes I want to ask some of the girls that wear them if they've ever tested the wind resistance on those things...my guess is they've never been outside for more than an hour at a time in the winter.
