Are black people naturally criminal minded?

I've spent most of my time fighting stereotypes, but just a week ago an incident occurred that has caused me to rethink my stance on the correlation between race and criminal mindedness. A family friend of mine that is in his 60s has lived in Michigan for about 35 years or so. He immigrated there from India, and has been a taxi driver. Last week at around 2am, he was in the suburbs of Michigan when a group of 4-5 Black youngsters (possibly in their 20s) requested a ride and took him to a desolate area. After arriving there, they beat him up and left him to die. He tried calling the police, but apparently they said they could not enter that specific area for whatever reason. And so he got up and reached the highway where a good samaritan gave him a ride to the hospital, and he is currently in Intensive Care Unit. The police have said it is probably a hate crime since he is Muslim and South Asian. I honestly don't mean to sound ignorant, but this behavior is so shameful. He's in his 60s for crying out loud, and a group of youngsters beat him up.
